“and so we are.”

Lava fields extended across the terrain and a steady tradewind blew.  The photo above is on the road to Kekaha Kai State Park our location for a recent photo shoot J. Ronning Photography did for Pikai swimwear.  A portion of the shoot featured the young models driving a landcruiser with surfboards and the whole group piled in the back. It was the first models shot, a mother and daughter in bright bold colors that stood out.  The warmth of natural affection shown as they posed with ease in the afternoon sun and causes me to smile even now.  How do we…

Prayer help, so you can get it!

Teach me how to pray more than a grocery list to a supermarket God. The sort of I’ll have this or that and “non feels” sort of prayers.  I don’t want to be on your prayer list, I want to be such a beautiful part of your heart and life you have to share it with God.  When did praying become a list? And why should it when it can be more? It is important to understand our petitions. The why do I want this clarity and understanding.  Today I’ll will open up my recent journal entry on prayer beware there is…

Day 1 in Uganda

The team is all here safe, in Uganda.  We were definitely tired.  It took us 3 flights to get here.  There were 7 different mission teams on the plane.  We had two flights surrounded by teams some with their own with matching t-shirts.  It was unusual to have a flight with so many different teams.   Each team will deboard the plane and head out to aid different areas in Uganda with one team going as far as Ethiopia.  As I write this all my teammates are currently sleeping.  It is about 4:41am in Uganda.   In a few hours…

The 2nd summer after my 4th baby was born, Jacy Rachel, we almost lost our son Jonah to a life threatening seizure where he was heli-vacted to Harborview Medical Center and then transferred over to Children’s Hospital.  Jonah’s little brother, Obediah, wandered into our room early one August morning.  He announced, as a 3-year-old…

What did you go to see?

Menu reads, grasshopers.  Desert food.  Bear Grylls style.  John the Baptist full of radical action is living in the desert, calling out the hypocrites, baptizing men and women, and holding the door open for Jesus Christ as God’s promised Messiah. When John’s followers question Jesus, Jesus replies with a question.  I think it is good when we are…

Tough week? Yeah me too.

Last Sat we were dancing and it was rad.  Sheltered from the storm.  Hearts light and hopes high. Days later my thoughts are full.  Health concerns.  They wear on us more than our actual health and well-being.  Nothing attacks our peace quite like a looming unknown health problem.  Since Feb when I had a challenging few weeks,…
