Another year around the Son 9.15.2025

Read Psalm 6, 8 Hebrews 2:1-9

Our church’s sermon and our reading plan collided this week. The unseen hand of God is orchestrating even here, even now. I am praying daily for the need seems vast. It’s still under a week since the Ukrainian woman’s death, Charlie Kirk’s assassination triggering a whole host of responses and vigils, and the Evergreen High School shooting in CO. How are you doing? Please lmk if I can pray for you. You should know, Jesus is praying for you even better than I could. And here even in the tension there can be an awakening. If you would like to join the YouVersion Bible reading plan lmk.

What a humble King we honor. Our God keeps going a little lower. The Son of God, Christ Jesus is superior to angels; (In his own words John 8:58, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM”) and the angel of the Lord in the old testament was a powerful interactive presence of God, yet God will lower himself further. The I AM comes down from Mt Sinai and in Yeshua, Jesus the Nazarene God goes lower, and takes on the form of Adam. The all powerful embraces infancy, and dependency upon a young handmaiden, Mary the mother of God, what meekness! Now consider the words in Hebrews as even more evidence that our Servant King is humble.

Hebrews 2:5-8 It is not to angels that he has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking. But there is a place where someone has testified:

“What is mankind that you are mindful of them, a son of man that you care for him?
You made them a little lower than the angels; you crowned them with glory and honor and put everything under their feet.” (Ps. 8:4-6)

Hebrews 2:9 NET says it different: For when he put all things under his control, he left nothing outside of his control. At present we do not yet see all things under his control,

Now this last line seems to explain why the evil is still in our world. Christ will like King David submit to the Father’s timing even for all things to be made subject to him.
Christ made low and crowned with glory and honor is waiting on the Father’s day of vengeance. Christ will be our shepherd and carry us forever. And upon his return he will ride the white horse of purity, righteousness, and victory.

God teaches the humble his way. The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him. (Psalm 25) God’s children will reflect his character and image and patience. Where is God inviting you to lowness, to meekness, to prayer, to trust?

Pray with me Paul’s prayer in Colossians 1:9-20 NET

“We have not ceased praying for you and asking

God to fill you with the knowledge of his will

in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,”

LORD we need understand even here even now. We pray to respond to sorrow and suffering in a fruitful way, we need the indwelling power of the Spirit, may everyone offer prayer to you.

so that you may live worthily of the Lord and please him in all respects bearing fruit in every good deed, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might for the display of all patience and steadfastness, joyfully giving thanks to the Father who has qualified you to share in the saints’ inheritance in the light. He delivered us from the power of darkness

(Consider Christ’s example of patience even now, and pray Christ’s words in the Lord’s Prayer; ‘deliver us from evil’)

and transferred us to the kingdom of the Son he loves in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

(Christ’s words again from the Lord’s Prayer) Father, forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation, for all things in heaven and on earth were created in him—all things, whether visible or invisible, whether thrones or dominions, whether principalities or powers—all things were created through him and for him.

He himself is before all things, and all things are held together in him.

Hold us together, hold the nation together, hold the church together as our CHIEF SHEPHERD.

He is the head of the body, the church, as well as the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that he himself may become first in all things.

For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in the Son

In the name of Jesus flood our generation with your fullness LORD. (Jesus prayer for all believers Jn. 17:20-22) I am not praying only on their behalf, but also on behalf of those who believe in me through their testimony, that they will all be one, just as you, Father, are in me and I am in you. I pray that they will be in us, so that the world will believe that you sent me.

and through him to reconcile all things to himself by making peace through the blood of his cross—through him, whether things on earth or things in heaven.

Reconcile us, reconcile our world to Christ, Father we petition you for a great awakening for the sake of the blood of Jesus, and his meekness in death. Father your son gave us this blessing, and we give it back to him-Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. (Matt. 5:5) Amen
