Another year around the Son 9.7.2025
Read 1 Samuel 30-31, Acts 16:26-40
God’s hand is in the decision to send David back from the battle. Not only is he spared from fighting the house of Saul and Jonathan let alone Israel. He is routed back to rescue his wives and children.
Unable to see beyond the burned and ruined city and the terror of their wives and children taken, the men and David wept loudly until they could weep no more. (1 Sam 30:4)
Have you been there? Grief clouds our sight, like the smoke a thick blanket of distress bitterly grips his men.
And then one statement stands out, ‘BUT DAVID DREW STRENGTH FROM THE LORD HIS GOD.’ (1 Sam 39:6)
But those who wait for the Lord’s help find renewed strength; they rise up as if they had eagles’ wings, they run without growing weary, they walk without getting tired. Isaiah 40:31 NET
It would seem as if David was lucky coming upon the Egyptian slave, but no this is how God is working on behalf of David.
Full redemption is the outcome for all. If you were with David but too exhausted to fight you were still restored in full. David also extends gifts to the brothers of Israel.
How much more will the Son of David restore us! Regardless of our exhausted state when we side with Jesus we are going to be saved, all of us and our families.
God’s hand works in freeing men in the New Testament. Clearly through the hardships of Paul’s imprisonment God was working and his salvation is for families. Why not ours?
“Then he brought them outside and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household.” Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him, along with all those who were in his house. At that hour of the night he took them and washed their wounds; then he and all his family were baptized right away. The jailer brought them into his house and set food before them, and he rejoiced greatly that he had come to believe in God, together with his entire household.”
