Another Year Around the Son 5.19.2025
Read Numbers 21, John 3:1-21
Sometimes you sing your way out of trouble or into provision, as you sing you are satiated. Something good is coming. Something is on the way. God is leading us. It’s what Moses after first seeking God in prayer was directed to do: And from there they continued to Beer; that is the well of which the Lord said to Moses, “Gather the people together, so that I may give them water.” (Nothing has changed the Father wants to give us living water through his son Jesus. John 7:37-39) Then Israel sang this song:
“Spring up, O well!—Sing to it!—
the well that the princes made,
that the nobles of the people dug,
with the scepter and with their staffs.” Numbers 21:16-18 ESV
Remember praise opens prison doors, sing like Paul and Silas, and watch the doors swing wide! Sing praise.
🐚🥥🤍We don’t just pray for an open heaven we ask for the springs. Lord send us men and women full of the Spirit to bless the land, to bring water like Rebekah from the well of salvation, the eternal spring. Bless the servants of the Lord who serve with integrity and who don’t walk after the flesh. Father we honor your name and ask you to break open the springs in Jesus name, Amen.
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:19 NIV
Isaiah 35:7, depicts springs transforming dry land into fruitful areas. I feel a change coming! Lord we pray for fruitfulness this summer in the church camps, retreats, gatherings of worship, or pastoral sabbaticals, and our Awake SUMMER IN SEABROOK conference.
The word of God uses springs to symbolize life, provision, fruitfulness, security, and blessing.
1. Springs as a Symbol of Life on Earth and Eternal Life:
Genesis 2:6 NIV: but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground.
Isaiah 35:7 NET: The dry soil will become a pool of water, the parched ground springs of water. Where jackals once lived and sprawled out, grass, reeds, and papyrus will grow.
Check this out! In John 4:14 NET: But whoever drinks some of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again, but the water that I will give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up to eternal life.” (The water springing up is described in the footnotes of the NET like jumping: The verb ἁλλομένου (hallomenou) is used of quick movement (like jumping) on the part of living beings. This is the only instance of its being applied to the action of water. However, in the LXX it is used to describe the “Spirit of God” as it falls on Samson and Saul. See Judg 14:6, 19; 15:14; LXX ( 1 Sam 10:6, 10 ET); and Isa 35:6) The Spirit of God will come on the lame man in Acts 3:8 instantaneously healing him and he will jump and leap, and praise God. Lord let healings spring up. Revive and bring a renewal in prayer and regular praise in our homes.
FYI: a modern translation of the Septuagint (LXX), the scriptures used by Greek-speaking Christians and Jews of antiquity.
Jesus said to Nicodemus ‘unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter the kingdom of God. (Ezek. 36:25-27) And just after saying it plain to Nicodemus a faithful member of the Sanhedrin Jesus in John 4 is offering the woman at the well (a Samaritan) access to himself, the source for life in the Spirit. Anyone can come, just like in our reading today all who looked at the bronze serpent, lived. (Num 21:9, John 3:14-16)
2. Springs as a Symbol of God’s Provision and Blessing:
Psalm 84:6: Isaiah 41:18: Joshua 15:19:
Caleb gives his daughter Achsah springs of water, symbolizing God’s provision and blessing. “She said to him, “Give me a blessing. Since you have given me the land of the Negeb, give me also springs of water.” And he gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.“
Jesus directly to the woman at the well tells her to ask for the living water. (John 4:10-14) Ask for the provision and blessing you need. Before you text another to pray have you asked God? Do this and then reach out to others as well. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you. 2 Chronicles 20:12
3. Springs as a Symbol of God’s Presence and Power:
Exodus 17:1-7: Numbers 20:1-11:
Moses in a feat of miraculous and divine power strikes the rock to provide water for the Israelites. Won’t He Do It!
4. Springs as a Symbol of Fruitfulness:
Jeremiah 17:7-8 NET:
My blessing is on those people who trust in me,
who put their confidence in me.
They will be like a tree planted near a stream
whose roots spread out toward the water.
It has nothing to fear when the heat comes.
Its leaves are always green.
It has no need to be concerned in a year of drought.
It does not stop bearing fruit.
This promise is similar to having insurance or resource in times of hardship, famine, or drought. TRUST IN GOD is one of the most peace-giving actions we can take even if we like Moses and the tribes go to physical war. Confidence in God characterized Moses. As we read Numbers we see his reliable response to any struggle, battle, or leadership challenge–prayer. He is ever faithful and ever believing the words of God. (Hebrews 3:2,5)
My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house. Numbers 12:7
“But the Lord said to Moses, “Do not fear him, for I have given him into your hand, and all his people and his land; and you shall do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon.””

5. Other Symbolic Uses:
Proverbs 25:26: A spoiled thing is compared to a spring of water that has been polluted.
James 3:11-13: The tongue is compared to a spring, and a person’s speech is compared to the water it produces, suggesting that good or bad words flow from the heart. In our reading today the serpents were a judgement for the people’s speech against God and Moses.
“The people spoke against God and Moses, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and we loathe this miserable food.””

AND STILL God was merciful and didn’t quit on them, nor did Moses quit on them. Whoever looked to the bronze serpent was saved. Similarly whoever turns and looks to Jesus is saved today. (John 3:17-19 NASB) For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.

As goes the heart, so goes the leader. “Guard your heart with all vigilance, for from it are the sources of life.” (Proverbs 4:23) Integrity requires internal honesty. You cannot be honest with others unless you are honest with yourself and with God. Keep your heart clean and strong in spiritual flow.
You must choose to honor integrity as your lifetime goal, making your lifetime passion to be a person of integrity. Decide that you will make integrity the focus of your life. Commit yourself to honesty, reliability and confidentiality. Make a covenant that you will never sell your integrity – not for power, revenge, pride or money. Decide to practice integrity in the little things of life. If you consistently do what is right in the littler, everyday things, a life of integrity will come easy.
John 3:21 NET “But the one who practices the truth comes to the light, so that it may be plainly evident that his deeds have been done in God.”
Lynda Murphy “… so Moses prayed for the people.” Num 21:7
Time & time again Moses intervenes on behalf of the ppl through prayer and and they are restored/spared. Not one time do we read that the people prayed on behalf of Moses or Aaron. It leaves me, wondering if he would have been able to lead them into the promised land if the latter were the case.
Take some time to pray for our pastors/leaders/teachers.
