Another year around the Son 3.17.25
Read Exodus 13-14, Matthew 17:1-13
I find it interesting that God himself told them exactly where to camp in Exodus 14:2 and then the Lord also tells Moses I will harden Pharaoh’s heart and he will chase y’all. Now considering the Israelites have the evidence of God’s presence in Exodus 13:21-22 it’s wild how God has literally been going before them by a pillar of a cloud and at night a pillar of fire —And he doesn’t remove himself from them—Yet when Egypt is chasing them down, they are terrified.
Isn’t this so like us and the Lord has to speak to us through his people just like Moses said to the Israelites do not fear, stand firm and see the salvation of the Lord.
In Exodus 14:14 NET Moses tells them the Lord will fight for you and you can be still. But then in verse 15 the Lord does a bit of a course correction and he says tell the Israelites to move on which is a command to go forward, so sometimes stillness or silence as the ESV called it… is not being terrified but having the courage to head forward ie taking action. You’re not fighting the fight. The Lord will fight the fight, but you continue in the course and the direction that Christ has called you.
The morning watch was about 2 AM to 6 AM and the word is striking as it says that the Lord looked down on the Egyptian army through the pillar of fire and cloud, and he threw the Egyptian army into a panic. He jammed the wheels of their chariots so they had difficulty driving.
Yup, God literally fights.
Moses will show up to speak with Jesus before the cross, “Then Moses and Elijah also appeared before them, talking with him.” Matthew 17:3 NET
Note in Deuteronomy 34 we know Moses died and here he is talking with Jesus pretty interesting theologically.
This is pretty amazing because Jesus is having a conversation ie talking to Elijah and Moses and the voice of God is heard so it’s quite baffling.
Zan Fiskum I love how God speaks and the disciples fall to the ground because they’ve just encountered something terrifyingly powerful and then sweet Jesus comes to them like hey it’s all good, “don’t be afraid.” So crazy how Jesus and God are ONE but the encounters are different! Just kinda of cool and confusing to me haha
God and Jesus are all powerful, holy, ruler and father, friend, and comforter ♥️
Sydney Lund I have definitely had moments like the Israelites when they were coming out of Egypt doubting that God could bring them out of the coming trouble. It’s easy to focus on the hardship you’re facing and forget that God will handle it. Thankfully His grace is not dependent on us and is far greater than we can comprehend.
