What gathers us together? Part 2 by Brie Dilley

Food. It’s the thing that causes us to gather more than anything else. There is something completely beautiful, and unique about this seemingly mundane thing we do every day. What is it about a family sharing a meal at the dinner table, or a couple splitting dessert on date night, or old friends joined once again over wine and cheese, that is so straightforward and awe inspiringly real? Gathering around food is special; this ritual crosses all cultural, religious and socioeconomic boundaries. Throughout the Bible, we see countless figures taking part in this practice. Jesus used it as a tool to reach people that were outcast. He even used it as a way to remember His sacrifice. Communion.
