Another year around the Son 10.27.2025
Read 2 Samuel 16-17, Romans 12:1-8

Happy Thanksgiving!
In today’s reading it’s about the line of David revolting and rebelling against him. And yet it will be the line of David that redeems us all and makes all righteous. We read of men of counsel like Ahithophel and David’s men of war who remained loyal. Now fast forward to those in the new covenant who prophecy, teach, exhort, serve, give with liberality, those who lead with diligence, and those who show mercy with cheerfulness. And yes none who think too highly of themselves.
David was all of these. Even when being cursed he stayed humble trusting the Lord to settle it. And King Jesus came from him willing to be humbled, rather than one who sought to overthrow and destroy like Absalom. Jesus sought our sin and curse, entrusting himself to God. Although for David this came as a result of his sin, and was a mark of imperfection. Jesus has no mark of imperfection only the marks of unfailing love for the sinner, for you and for me.
When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. 1Peter 2:23 NIV
Why? To offer us the gift of mercy, and to do it with joy. Surprise the debt has been paid.
And we respond. Romans 12:1 and Galatians 2:20 exhort us to offer ourselves to the Lord for his purposes knowing he loves and cares for us. So we can say like Isaiah here I am send me.
