Another year around the Son 10.13.2025
Read Psalm 133, John 17:1-13
Robert Murray McCheyene has a quote “If I could hear Christ praying for me in the next room, I would not fear a million enemies. Yet distance makes no difference. He is praying for me. (Robert Murray M’Cheyne p. 179)
God was with David. (Samuel 5:10) God is made flesh and dwells among us in Christ Jesus (John 1:14), all the tribes of Israel in Hebron said, “we are thy bone and thy flesh.” (2 Samuel 5:1) Christ is anointed and then suffered and subsequently defeats death. David is anointed and then suffered but also defeats Goliath in a show between the one true God and the Philistine gods (I Samuel 17:43). Both awaited the exaltation of the Father’s will. David took the strong hold. Christ will take Zion, or the the city of David as well. Our King reigns. (Isaiah 22:22, Rev 3:7) And not only is Jesus crowned the LORD OF GLORY but he promises to his disciples, “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven” (Matt. 16:19) You could study this material and these men more should you chose. Hosanna. It’s wonderful to know Jesus prays for you and for me. And when he prayed the high priestly prayer, as our SON OF DAVID and KING OF KINGS, he prays for us to be ONE. (John 17) “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” John 17:20-23
We often ask like Joshua are you for us, or for our enemies. (Joshua 5:13) However we must have bearing like Abraham Lincoln expressed, “Sir, my concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God’s side, for God is always right.” David comprehended God’s ways are always right. (Moses believed it in Deut 32:4, it is reiterated it in Psalm 33:4, and again by John in Rev 15:3) God’s ways have a higher moral purpose. David would not harm Saul. David trusted the ways of the LORD, and when he is made KING, and when his reign is strengthen it is only because God is with him, not because he took Saul’s life. Do you recall how David referenced himself as flea in comparison to Saul? His meekness is exemplary, the best of it’s kind. That is until Christ Jesus the SON OF GOD, true perfection is born.
Read again the Robert Murray McCheyene quote above. I’m partial to it. I don’t ever want to drift from the comfort and assurance it is just to know that I am covered in Christ’s prayers for me. What riches! What honor!
