Another year around the Son 2.4.25

Read Job 26:7-14 NET

“He spreads out the northern skies over empty space; he suspends the earth on nothing. He locks the waters in his clouds, and the clouds do not burst with the weight of them. He conceals the face of the full moon, shrouding it with his clouds.

The pillars of the heavens tremble and are amazed at his rebuke. By his power he stills the sea; by his wisdom he cut Rahab the great sea monster to pieces. By his breath the skies became fair; his hand pierced the fleeing serpent. And these are but the outer fringe of his works; how faint the whisper we hear of him! Who then can understand the thunder of his power?”

Jesus like Moses also demonstrates power over the chaos of the sea in Mark 4:39 NET. Moses exercising YHWH’S authority cut the sea in half. God abundant in power has no trouble grabbing his chef knife with his right hand and chopping the waters in half. Really, who can understand the thunder of his power?

  •  Rahab, a sea monster/dragon that represents the primordial abyss, darkness, and chaos. Psalm 89:9-10, Isaiah 51:9
  • The Hebrew name Rahab means “pride, arrogance” and in Isaiah 30:17 Rahab refers to Egypt.

We sing ‘You brought me out of Egypt and what we mean is we have triumphed over the bondage and chaos of our sin through our great deliverer CHRIST the LORD. (Colossians 2:15 NET)
