Jesus is calling followers still! Jesus is currently hiring for the occupation ‘fishers for men’ otherwise know as workers in his vineyard (Matthew 20:7). FOLLOW. FISH. LABOUR. Put on your boots and let’s get to work.
Tradesmen have apprentices. We start work by learning from Jesus. Notice the devil was misapplying and quoting God’s word— using scripture to offer an excuse for his suggestions and temptations. First off in the prayer Jesus teaches his disciples is a very important request, lead us not into temptation. Pray it often.
Satan was trying to take the word of God out of context and apply it persuasively to Jesus.
When you are tempted you may find an example or another person doing it, or a verse that seems to justify, but it’s not from the Spirit it’s from the flesh OR WORSE THE DEVIL. Discerning laborers take their cue from Jesus. They are not passive. They straight up resist the devil, (JESUS DID 3x) and his suggestions.
Resist (James 4:7) by surrendering to GOD and his word. To do that you need the whole counsel of God. Jesus knew the word and applied it appropriately. Christ had a cross examination or a counterbalance for each temptation.
This is one of the reasons I am so adamant about reading 📖 God’s word.
John says repent. Matt 3:2
‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.’
Jesus says ‘repent and believe in the gospel’. Mark 1:15
Peter in Acts 2:38 says ‘repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.’
