Facedown

My body woke and I reached for my phone, 4:55 am.  Dang it’s early.  Dishes need attention in the kitchen so I roll out of bed.  I must clean my counters before a small gathering in the front room at 6 am. Thankful for the laughter in my kitchen the night before over homemade tortillas. I take note only enough for one 1.5 cups of coffee.  I’m almost out of soy creamer and the hard realization of how small a problem this is in the light of the sufferings broadcast on the news feed.  We gather in prayer.  And somewhere it hits me how low we must go.  My posture face down.  Contemplations of the struggle.  My present struggle with sorrow a war within.  The ongoing one in our nation and the many nations.  We had a small conversation trying to understand these ever more common acts of terror.  I lay low knowing too well within my own life the depths of pain with loss.   I wonder why you would ever plunge a group of strangers, civilians, mothers, daughters, brothers, sisters, fathers, friends heck small children into the depths of it’s bereavement.

What hate settles in the depths of men?!  All these religions fighting and bleeding for dominance.  Jesus Christ represents a humble gospel, a willing to lay low gospel.  My posture is not because I am good.  Because there is only one who is good.

Mark 10:18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good–except God alone.”

My posture is a recognition of how desperate a need we are all in for humility.

Sin, hate, grief, sickness, sorrow, a costly price worn public by my Savior.  I ask him again to bear the sorrow of this world.  To absorb within his body the hostility of nations. Believing full well He can.

Hate will not move us forward.  Only faith can move mountains.  Let us not forget pure faith is to help widows and orphans, the bereaved.

James 1:27 Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

Pure faith does not make women into widows and children into orphans it comes to them in their distress.

I’m face down for pure faith in the world.  Will you join me?  And together perhaps we can rise up.
