Greater Grace

Romans 8:37-38 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life…

Currently, I am midst the study of James and when James writes about Greater Grace it catches me.  Cause if you have choked down the verses rejoice in trials and afflictions.  If you’ve read show no partiality about God having no favorites.  If you read about all the commands to have a faith of action.  The full weight of this word hits as James writes about encouragement without action “be warmed, but you never clothe anyone” you know the real truth. James calls us to a life defined as alive by what we were called to do in the natural (you know real time) with actions inspired by faith.

Then James charges forward right in on the tongue- oh the truth of it!

Jesus I need to catch my breath and live this gospel.  James carries on in staggering fashion with words written about loving the world and how if you do you can’t love God.  In the midst of all this calling us to account suddenly life hits the page, and he writes…

…but God gives greater grace.

James 4 Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God. 5 What do you think the Scriptures mean when they say that the spirit God has placed within us is filled with envy?
6 But he gives us even more grace to stand against such evil desires. As the Scriptures say,
“God opposes the proud but favors the humble.” 7 So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.

God is clearly calling us to enter through the door of grace.  You need to rest your weary hands from toil inspired of striving.  Pull over stop on the side of the road and cry out for grace.  Your heart needs this grace.  My spirit needs His Spirit.  Greater grace.  The pull of the world is constant.  The pull of the flesh present.  Greater grace, means I humble myself to obtain more strength than one life could ever use.  More hope than one heart could ever carry.  More love than one soul could ever demonstrate.

Jesus gives grace.  When he does grace out works them all through faith.

Despite all these things we have an overwhelming victory.  Romans reads “I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life…

So whatever the life lies you’ve seen, whatever the hardship experienced you have an overwhelming victory.  Slander, favorites in the church, empty blessings with no real love behind them- yes even in these we have victory.  His name is Jesus.  You and I can humbly come, wash, cleanse, and then carry on in grace.
